At present, there are about 100 sensors installed on a family car, and the number of sensors on the luxury car is up to 200. So how many sensors does the automatic driving system need to support as the future mainstream intelligent electric vehicle?


In the past two years, China's automatic driving technology has continued to iterate and make breakthroughs. Experts pointed out that the wide application of automatic driving is conducive to saving some labor force and bringing convenience to people who are inconvenient to drive. Moreover, the driving mode of the autopilot car is more energy efficient and can alleviate traffic congestion and air pollution.

The characteristics of the sensor include miniaturization, digitization, intellectualization, multifunction, systematization and networking. It is the primary link to realize automatic detection and automatic control. The existence and development of sensors make objects have senses such as touch, taste and smell, and make objects slowly become alive.


At present, the biggest problem in perception is measurement accuracy and multi-sensor fusion. The mainstream sensor is ultrasonic radar. A few models adopt the configuration of ultrasonic radar plus camera. Because the cost of lidar is too high, it can not be mass produced on the vehicle. However, it can be considered to install millimeter wave radar, and its cost is decreasing year by year.


In the future, radar and camera cooperative sensing will become the mainstream; In terms of decision-making, it needs control algorithm to realize, so it needs a large number of parking data training algorithms to realize the path planning smoothly together; In terms of execution, with the continuous development of wire control technology, the responsiveness of execution will be more and more sensitive, the safety will be more and more reliable, and the car will be more and more inclined to intelligent control.


Therefore, the fusion and complementarity of multiple sensors is inevitable. Whether lidar, ultrasonic, millimeter wave, camera, GPS, IMU, accelerometer and gyroscope are the necessary sensors for automatic driving of electric vehicles.
